SS16 Lingerie as outerwear.

As spring and summer are fast approaching, we might find ourselves out and about in some beautiful weather. Warmer weather means wearing less so why not invest in some lingerie you can wear as normal clothes?

The Casual look

Pair a bralet with a pair jeans and an open button down shirt for an every day look in the spring and summer. If you want to wear a proper top, invest in a bra with high straps that peak out at the top.

To the left is the Undiz Etoiliz Bustier Push Bra. This beautiful bralet costs only £20 and is a cheaper alternative to the Skivvies For Love & Lemons Giselle Bra (In the middle) which comes in at £130 on ASOS but Jeanne Pompadour stock it for £95. The bra on the left is the ASOS FULLER BUST Patsy Fishnet Lace Caged Underwire Bra I have featured this bra as it starts in DD cups and it can be difficult to find strappy bras in larger cups. ASOS have loads of bras from different brands with the high strapped bras so find one that would suit the look you want and pair with a low cut or V cut top.

Night out

Lingerie as outerwear party looks are my favourite. I love wearing leotards on a regular basis and I have dressier ones for going out for drinks and to wear to parties. Pair a beautiful body with a pair of high waisted jeans or a skirt and throw on some heels and clutch for a simple, sophisticated and sexy look. Add an evening jacket such as a blazer for an extra layer if you wish. These are my favourite picks from this season:

On the left is Skivvies For Love & Lemons Alexa Body which is probably the most incredible body I have ever seen, but coming in at almost £200 I might need to sell my soul to afford it. To the right is the ASOS Anastasia Lace Half Cup Strappy Body coming in at just £22 which is perfect for a night out at a cocktail bar or a club.

Wearing a Teddy out is totally acceptable if it covers your bum. You can always wear with a pair of tights if you want to cover up more but I chose these two as they are beautiful and are also modest. You would need to wear a string thong with the blue one though as there is a lace cut out. The blue Teddy is the ASOS Carmela Long Sleeve Teddy which is £28. The powdered pink teddy is the ASOS Zoe Satin Frill Teddy which is also only £28. They are beautiful and the low neck lines can be fixed in place with some fashion tape.

The garden party

Targeted advertising brought me to a love affair with Elsie’s Attic. She stocks the most amazing Tulle Tutu Skirts so I am going to order one in time for events in the summer. I knew instantly that I wanted to pair the skirt with either a bralet or a body.

I found the Yummie Lux Lace Gretchen Bodysuit on Figleaves after choosing my favourite skirts. The bodysuit is fitted and shapes your figure but because of the way the lace top is featured, it is meant to be seen.

I can’t wait to start summer wardrobe shopping and I will definitely be purchasing some of these items to complete my closet.

Spring clean out your clothes and some old lingerie. Out with the old and in with the new.

Ultimo- The One.

I thought some people might be wondering why I’m obsessed with this bra after tweeting so much about it this week. This means this weeks blog post is dedicated to my favourite bra “The One” by Ultimo.

About a year ago when I decided that I wanted to get into the lingerie industry my Dad told me that an entrepreneur called Michelle Mone had just spoken in Bath and was releasing a book about her life which included her journey of founding Ultimo. She aspired to create bras that gave amazing cleavage as well as being really comfortable. Her husband at the time mocked her saying “What do you know about bras?” to which she responded “I’ve got a pair of tits- I’ll figure it out”. And so she did.  After reading her book “My fight to the top” I took it upon myself to order a bra from Ultimo to see what I thought of the bras.

So I ordered “The One, Jessie” in black and a champagne colour. The base of the bra is a beautiful neutral shade covered in symmetrical black lace. How gorgeous is it?! I ordered this bra in a 32E as I was in between cup sizes and band sizes so I went for the larger. It was a bit big but the racer back converter which is apart of the bra allowed the bra to sit better. I would have exchanged it for a smaller size but they didn’t have any left in a 32DD. db767b72-49ec-4fff-8a0e-d80208cd8dda

The second “One” I ordered was “The One, Janey”. I fell in love with the simplicity of the bra and when I first saw it released I knew I had to own it. It’s an every day bra which you feel incredibly sexy in. I wasn’t sure if I would find the added straps irritating or inconvenient but they aren’t tight so you don’t notice they are there unless you’re checking yourself out in the mirror… The straps are worn and secured by another clasp at the back, just like the one you would use to fasten the back of your bra normally.

The next two I ordered were just simple “The One”. I wanted some brighter colours for the summer and they were in the sale and I just couldn’t resist. They are in the colours Aqua and Cherry. This photo makes me so ready for some sun.

So what makes “The One” bra my favourite?

Each bra contains a modest amount of padding to enhance your cleavage. Unlike a lot of padded bras, they don’t push your breasts in directions they don’t want to be pushed in. The inside of the cups also contains little satin sling to give you a boost but it also feels lovely against your skin. They can all be transformed into racer backs with a hook which tucks nicely into the strap when you don’t need it. I don’t normally like plunge bras as I feel like they flatten my breasts but the little padding allows the bra to hold the roundness and give you the cleavage that plunge style bras are the best at giving. It’s an all round every day bra and the seasonal options that they have are always so beautiful.

I have not linked each bra as I have gone through but I have given you the names so you can search them on Google and find one in a sale the has your size. Remember, if you are in between sizes I would recommend the smaller of the two unless you sway more towards the larger size. Ultimo have the Aqua, Cherry and Janey (in red) styles on their website so go and have a look on there.

Happy mid-season sale shopping!

Soak Wash: The Review

I  have been looking for a nice bra wash for a long time now and whilst I was at Moda I stumbled across a Soak stand and got incredibly excited.

Soak prides itself on the fact that they don’t use harsh chemicals in their products. The idea of the product is that if it isn’t good for your skin you should not use it to wash your hand washables. This means that it’s gentle on your skin which is important and it also means you don’t have to spent an hour trying to remove harsh soap from your bra  that could potentially irritate your skin if you don’t get it all out.

How does it work?

Soak is a low-suds liquid, the dirt and detergent come out in the water, and whatever is left in the item evaporates. When you squeeze out the water, all that’s left behind is a hint of fragrance that fades over time.

How to use the product

Firstly I washed out my bathroom sink to make sure nothing was sitting in the basin that I wouldn’t want my bra soaking in i.e. hand soap. I then filled up my bathroom sink with cool water, popped my sachet of Soak in there and placed my bra in and made sure it was covered in water.

Bra from Boux Avenue. Soaking in the lacey scent.

You should leave to soak for at least 15 minutes, so I set a timer and went and pre occupied myself. If you leave it for longer that 15 minutes that isn’t a problem. I then drained the water and gently squeezed the water out of the cups and along the straps and back. You should never attempt to ring out a bra as this can damage the structure and/or the wires within the bra.

Always leave bras flat to dry. I normally do my bras just before the evening and leave them in my bedroom on an airer because my radiator comes on then makes my room really warm so the bras dry faster.

What was my bra like after it had dried?

My bra smelt amazing. I used the lacy sachet and I was not disappointed. When putting the bra on it felt really fresh and my bra felt new on my skin.

How often should you wash a bra?

Soak recommends every one to two wears. I think it depends on the individual because on more sweaty and hot days I would wash my bra after that use but if it’s freezing winter and not a drop of sweat has appeared on my body, I wouldn’t wash it after two washes I would probably go four or five. But I rotate my bras each day so my bra has a chance to air between wears. It also depends if you use moisturiser or oil on your breasts at the start of each day. If you do you should wash it more frequently as the oil will stay in the bra. But lets be honest, leaving your bra to soak for 15 minutes is not at all tedious compared to routines you have to use with other soaps, so it doesn’t take much effort any more!

Would I recommend this product?

Yes! I really like soak and once I have chosen my favourite scent from the sachets I was given at Moda, I will invest in a bottle of my favourite smell. For anyone who is sensitive to fragrance products there is an option with no scent.

Where can I buy this product?

Soak is based in Toronto, Canada, meaning that if you order online directly from their site you will have to pay the shipping cost and potentially import tax. Luckily some UK suppliers have blessed us with stocking the product but my go to place would be House of Fraser. They don’t have the product in every store but with their really great (and free) click and collect service you can order it online before midnight and it will be waiting in your local store from midday the following day. Hooray! You can order the product on Amazon but it’s a bit more expensive.

Product sizing

If you are ordering from House of Fraser then the larger bottles are £15 for 375ml. With a bottle this size you should get at least 75 washes out of it, meaning it will last you a long time as well as being great value for money. The smaller bottles are £9 for 90ml and you should get at least 18 washes out of it. I would recommend buying a larger bottle for home use but if you are travelling a smaller bottle will be very useful- Trust me if you’re away from home for a long time you will want this product and it can be used for other delicates.

Happy Soaking!

Ultimate Strapless from Wonderbra Review

One word to describe this bra?

“Ultimate” – It’s in the name!

Your average multiway bra that can be adjusted to strapless can easily be put to shame once you have tried on and tested this bra.

The first thing I noticed about the bra was the lace. A strapless bra needs to be able to fit under a variety of different materials without revealing the bumps and lumps of the lace pattern underneath. The Ultimate Strapless Wonderbra has tight fitted lace so you still feel beautiful as well as comfortable without affecting the smoothness of the outfit on top. There are variations of this bra which are plain if you didn’t want lace but the lace doesn’t look any different under tight fitting garments.

The bra is fit with “hands” inside. If you love the look you give yourself when you’re standing in the mirror playing boob lift, you now know there is a bra that will give you that effect. The bra is not padded, yet the hand technology brings your breasts together for the perfect cleavage.

The bra is also fitted with a silicone rim as you can see in the image above, which fulfils its purpose to support and stabilise the bra. After a long night of wearing the bra whilst dancing and moving around, I can happily say I did not have to pull up or readjust the bra once.

The only thing I would say, is that the bra is very true to size. If you are an in between size like myself, go for the larger size. I went for a 30E but I wish I had gone for a 32. The 30 fit when I made my purchase but with a little weight gain it now doesn’t. The tighter (but not uncomfortable) fit, does ensure that your bra stays in place.  I have solved my tight back issue with a three hook bra back extender and the bra is now back to being just as comfortable again.

I also purchased myself a black version and I brought it in the 32DD and it gives me the exact same result. This bra is a consistent giver from different sizes and even slightly different patterns. An absolute essential in your lingerie wardrobe.

Wonderbra obviously stock their own bras online but if you want to try one on I would recommend checking out your local Debenhams store which is where I first fell in love with this product. The lace patterns are slightly different now but just as beautiful. The new versions of the bra have silicone dots instead of strips but I have tried one on and I can assume you they are just as fabulous!

Go on, treat yourself.

Don’t be afraid, grab your boobs!

If there is anything more important than lingerie to a women, it should be the body that wears it. There is no point in giving your breasts the luxury of dressing them up in the prettiest and most comfortable bra if you aren’t going to look at how they are really feeling.

Organisations such as Coppafeel are here to raise awareness that checking your breasts should really be apart of your routine. You do not need to check every day, but you should know how you breasts feel normally. Lumpiness can come and go with your menstrual cycle so keep that in mind when you’re checking, especially on your time of the month and if you feel a lump, check back on it a few days after you come off your period, if the lump is still there then contact your doctor.

With 1 in 8 women experiencing breast cancer at some point in their lives, it’s much easier to treat and cure if it’s diagnosed at an early stage. But remember, the checking starts with you and it will only take five minutes out of your day.

So… It’s all good telling you this, but what do you really need to look for?

When is the best time to check your breasts?

Most women will check in the shower which is why Coppafeel offer free shower stickers which you can stick to your bathroom wall and go through the routine and check for the correct symptoms. It can take a month to arrive but don’t let that stop you from checking in the meantime.

This is not just a female issue!

If any guys are reading this, then you should know that 400 men are diagnosed with breast cancer every year. This means that shower stickers can be mutually used and appreciated by both you and the females in the house. Ladies and gentlemen, encourage your partner to check their chest! They might be reluctant but they might thank you if one day you’ve effectively saved their life.

Festival season

The festival season is fast approaching and Coppafeel stands might be at some of them. It’s actually how I first heard about Coppafeel! You can expect to have photos with face hole celebrity bras or two giant breasts to raise awareness. I was pulled in by the Coppafeel stand at the Moda Exhibition and this was the outcome.

My shower sticker, check card, photo and shower gel sample from coppafeel.

Don’t forget to check and if anything isn’t quite right, go and see your doctor!
